Laboratory Facilitator, Sport Science Specialist

This is a dynamic opportunity to join the team at Douglas College as a Laboratory Facilitator, Sport Science. The successful candidate will provide instructional and research support to students, faculty, and staff, while developing internal and community partnerships.
Key Responsibilities- Instructional Support
- Provide lab instruction and demonstration related to college sport science courses.
- Offer orientation and instructional support and assistance of specialized lab equipment to students, faculty, staff, and the general public.
- Prepare materials for use in the Sport Science Lab, subject to the curricula approval of the Sports Science faculty.
- Evaluation and Assessment
- Evaluate student work and performance in relation to laboratory requirements.
- Provide laboratory instruction and demonstration for Sport Science courses, including supervision of open lab environments.
- Lab Operations and Maintenance
- Manage access to equipment in the Sport Science Lab and ensure that the equipment is properly maintained and in good working order.
- Oversee and manage the daily operations of the SPSC lab.
- Communication and Collaboration
- Communicate effectively with students, faculty, administrators, staff, and the public.
- Collaborate with faculty in the development of lab manuals and lab activities.
- A degree in Sport Science or equivalent from a recognized post-secondary educational institution and one or two years of lab experience in a sport or activity-based area.
- In-depth theoretical and practical knowledge of fitness assessment and prescription.
- Good working knowledge of course content, operation, and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment and apparatus, and modern techniques pertaining to the instruction of science courses.
- Some knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), HTML programming, as well as common sport, fitness, analytical software/databases.
- Good working knowledge of the English language (written and verbal).
- A demonstrated ability to instruct students and public clients professionally and effectively, communicate courteously and effectively in person, in writing, and over the telephone, and work independently with minimum direct supervision.
