At Douglas College, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Laboratory Facilitator to join our Sport Science team. As a key member of our faculty, you will provide instructional and research support to students, faculty, and staff, while developing internal and community partnerships.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide lab instruction and demonstration related to college sport science courses, including orientation and instructional support for specialized lab equipment.
- Evaluate student work and performance in relation to laboratory requirements, including supervision of open lab environments and evaluation of written work and student performance.
- Prepare materials for use in the lab, subject to the curricula approval of the Sport Science faculty, including assistance with lab research and data collection.
- Perform other related duties, including scheduling and testing clients on basic fitness tests, gathering specifications for future lab purchases, and advising students on Sport Science courses and pre-requisites.
- A Degree in Sport Science or equivalent from a recognized post-secondary educational institution and one or two years of lab experience in a sport or activity-based area.
- In-depth theoretical and practical knowledge of fitness assessment and prescription.
- Good working knowledge of course content, operation, and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment and apparatus, and modern techniques pertaining to the instruction of science courses.
- Some knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), HTML programming, as well as common sport, fitness, analytical software/databases.
- Good working knowledge of the English language (written and verbal).
- A demonstrated ability to instruct students and public clients professionally and effectively, communicate courteously and effectively, and work in a team environment.
