Position Overview:
We are in search of a skilled Principal Data Scientist to enhance our Advanced Analytics team. This role is ideal for individuals who possess a deep passion for data, a strong history of addressing intricate challenges, and a desire to mentor fellow data scientists while contributing to impactful projects.
As a Principal Data Scientist, you will merge advanced analytical skills with leadership acumen and strategic foresight to ensure that our data science initiatives yield significant value. You will collaborate closely with other data scientists and cross-functional teams—including data engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders—to conceptualize, define, design, develop, and implement advanced analytical solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Leadership: Direct the technical strategy and execution of data science and AI projects, offering guidance and mentorship to junior team members. Provide broad technical leadership across the organization to devise strategies for addressing major challenges using data and implementing ML and AI technologies.
- MLOps: Advocate for the enterprise-wide adoption and implementation of MLOps.
- Data Analysis: Perform exploratory data analysis to uncover trends, patterns, and opportunities within extensive and complex datasets.
- Model Development: Create and deploy predictive and prescriptive models utilizing machine learning and statistical methodologies to tackle business challenges. Ensure models are effectively monitored and optimized in production environments.
- Feature Engineering: Develop and refine features from diverse data sources to enhance model efficacy.
- Data Storytelling: Communicate intricate data insights to business leaders and stakeholders in a comprehensible manner through storytelling and data visualization techniques (e.g., Power BI and Tableau).
- Community & Research: Stay updated on the latest data science and AI tools, techniques, and best practices, providing guidance to citizen data analysts/scientists and the broader community of practice.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related discipline with over 7 years of relevant experience.
- Extensive knowledge and proven expertise in applying statistical methods, machine learning algorithms, and data modeling techniques to business scenarios, with a strong ability to adapt approaches as needed.
- Proficient in SQL and Python is essential—familiarity with libraries and frameworks for data manipulation, machine learning, and data visualization is crucial. Knowledge of R and similar languages is advantageous.
- Ability to transform analysis into compelling narratives that effectively communicate findings from complex analyses to senior leadership and both business and technical stakeholders.
- Hands-on experience with MLOps and deploying models in live environments.
- Experience in creating dashboards using Power BI or Tableau.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure ML, Snowflake).
- Exceptional problem-solving skills with the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Data Science/AI training or certification.
- A master's degree and/or Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Experience in developing dashboards in Power BI or Tableau.
- Prior experience in the airline industry.
- Agile training or certification.
