The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Data Engineer to join our team at Manulife in Toronto, Ontario. As a key member of our Canada Data Office, you will play a critical role in enabling the building, maintenance, enhancements, and support of new and existing Azure data pipelines for various analytical use cases.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with business and advanced analytics partners to gain a deep understanding of data and design, curate, and publish connected data sets that enable users to self-serve.
  • Lead the development and implementation of Azure applications in production, ensuring they run within SLA and are robust and secure.
  • Propose technology improvements and innovative solutions to solve business problems, leveraging your expertise in Azure infrastructure, subscriptions, resource groups, resources, access control, and network concepts.
  • Collaborate with Architecture, security, and risk teams to implement the latest guidelines and Azure standard methodologies.
  • Lead, mentor, and guide data engineers to promote a customer-first approach and automate infrastructure provisioning and deployment using tools like Terraform.
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines that enable automated code deployment and participate in Agile sprints and ceremonies to support rapid iteration and development.
  • Maintain the inventory of critical data elements and lineage, and cultivate strong relationships with various teams and partners within the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, IT, or a related field, with a Master's degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in data engineering, with 5+ years of experience working with Azure-related data technologies.
  • Strong understanding of Azure infrastructure, subscriptions, resource groups, resources, access control, and network concepts.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure Databricks, ADF, ADLS, Synapse Serverless/dedicated/spark pools, Python, PySpark, and T-SQL, as well as experience designing and developing scripts for ETL processes and automation in Azure Data Factory and Azure Databricks.
  • High proficiency in GIT/Jenkins/dev ops processes to maintain and resolve issues with data pipelines in production.
  • Knowledge of implementing Azure technologies and networking via Terraform, as well as the ability to fix issues with Azure infrastructure in production.
  • Good understanding of data modeling, data mart, data lakehouse architecture, SCD, data mesh, and delta lake.
  • Solid understanding of data privacy and compliance regulations and standard methodologies for preserving customer data.

Working Arrangement: Hybrid

Salary range is expected to be between: $107,730.00 CAD - $200,070.00 CAD
