Job Summary:

The University of Manitoba is seeking a highly qualified and experienced individual to fill the position of Director of Indigenous Research and Engagement. This is a full-time position that will play a critical role in advancing the university's commitment to Indigenous achievement and engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for Indigenous research and engagement that aligns with the university's goals and objectives.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Indigenous communities, governments, and organizations to advance research partnerships and collaborations.
  • Provide leadership and support for Indigenous graduate students and faculty in their research endeavors, including access to funding, ethics approvals, and other resources.
  • Develop and deliver training programs and workshops on Indigenous research methods and best practices for the university community.
  • Collaborate with the Vice-President (Research and International) and other stakeholders to develop and implement policies and procedures that support Indigenous research and engagement.
  • Supervise and manage a team of staff and students to support Indigenous research and engagement initiatives.
  • Develop and manage budgets and resources to support Indigenous research and engagement initiatives.

Requirements:

  • Master's or doctoral degree in a relevant field, with a strong background in Indigenous studies and research.
  • At least 5 years of experience in Indigenous research and engagement, with a proven track record of building and maintaining relationships with Indigenous communities and organizations.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to supervise and manage a team of staff and students.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including Indigenous communities, governments, and university staff.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to collaboration and partnership.
  • Knowledge of university policies and procedures, with the ability to develop and implement policies and procedures that support Indigenous research and engagement.
