Physician - OAT and Substance Use Care

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Physician to join our team at Island Health, providing outpatient Addiction Medicine Services to individuals struggling with substance use disorders in the Western Communities area.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide comprehensive assessments, diagnosis, and treatment planning for patients with a focus on managing withdrawal symptoms.
  2. Initiate OAT for clients with opioid use disorder and anti-craving medication for clients with alcohol use disorder.
  3. Perform relevant diagnostic testing for the treatment of substance use disorders.
  4. Facilitate robust discharge planning to connect patients with their Most Responsible Provider (MRP).
  5. Document patient care when the patient is not present.
  6. Review diagnostic tests and participate in patient-specific conferences and team meetings when appropriate.

Clinical Administrative Services:

  1. Engage in clinically related administrative activities, including medical audits, peer and interdisciplinary reviews, chart reviews, and incident report reviews.
  2. Provide consultation with other programs or agencies specific to the services.
  3. Contribute to program planning and development activities when appropriate.
  4. Participate in evaluating the efficiency, quality, and delivery of services.

Requirements:

  1. Medical degree from an accredited institution.
  2. Valid medical license in the province of British Columbia.
  3. Board certification in Addiction Medicine (preferred).
  4. Experience in providing addiction medicine services and treating substance use disorders.
  5. Strong clinical skills in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning for substance use disorders.
  6. Excellent communication and collaboration abilities to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
