Facilities Maintenance Technician

Part-Time, Bargaining Unit Position

Position Overview:

Under the supervision of the Support Services Supervisor or designated representative, the Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring a safe, comfortable, and visually appealing environment for residents, staff, and visitors. All tasks will be performed in compliance with health and safety regulations to guarantee the well-being of all individuals on the premises.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and operate building systems, ensuring the security of the facility, including furnishings, restrooms, drainage systems, and life safety mechanisms such as fire alarms and suppression systems.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and document all repairs undertaken.
  • Direct vehicle flow in parking areas during special events.
  • Conduct regular inspections, recording operational data and reporting any anomalies or alarm signals to the Building Services Supervisor.
  • Maintain the maintenance workshop in optimal condition at all times.
  • Adhere to Health and Safety regulations consistently.
  • Understand and implement all fire safety protocols and procedures.
  • Respond to emergency calls as required.
  • Ensure elevators are maintained in a safe and operational state.
  • Monitor inventory levels and communicate requirements to the Building Services Supervisor.
  • Prepare room settings for various events and functions.
  • Carry out scheduled preventative maintenance tasks, including touch-ups of wall finishes and equipment inspections.
  • Facilitate contractor access to equipment during routine inspections and emergency repairs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Building Services Supervisor.

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of three years' experience in general maintenance and building operations, with at least one year in a long-term care or healthcare environment preferred.
  • Proficient knowledge and experience in commercial building operations, including electrical systems, backup generators, HVAC systems, and life safety systems.
  • Relevant training leading to a Building Environmental System Operator Class I certificate or equivalent is advantageous.
