What is the Role?

In collaboration with GE Hitachi and SNC-Lavalin, Aecon has entered into a partnership with Ontario Power Generation (OPG) to deliver North America's inaugural grid-scale Small Modular Reactor (SMR) through the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP). This project will be executed under an Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) model. Aecon will support various phases of the project, including design validation, procurement, and site preparation.

Reporting to the Project Controls Manager, the Cost Management Specialist will provide essential cost control support for ongoing projects and assist the estimating and construction teams in effectively implementing the company's project control system.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist project teams with project control activities, including estimating, proposals, cost systems (project setup in SAP and P6), change management, schedule reviews, project reporting, and related processes.
  • Maintain a change log to monitor all internal and external changes and track progress through the change management process.
  • Act as the primary contact for all project changes.
  • Coordinate with planning/scheduling and cost teams when preparing Project Baseline Change Requests (PBCR).
  • Understand and operate within project-specific contract conditions.
  • Participate in project status reporting meetings with customers and internal management as required.
  • Support cost control and project accounting teams as needed.
  • Complete other assignments as directed by the line manager.
  • Develop reporting documentation for internal Joint Venture communications.
  • Facilitate communication between the project controls team and the engineering/construction team.
  • Implement project communication initiatives as identified by the project team.
  • Engage actively in all engineering, procurement, quality, and construction matters to gain a comprehensive understanding of project status.

What You Bring:

  • 1-3 years of relevant experience is preferred.
  • A college or university degree in Engineering or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong written communication skills for report writing.
  • Familiarity with SharePoint applications is advantageous.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for effective communication within a large team.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral).
  • Able to work collaboratively with all levels of management and staff.
  • Willingness to pursue continuous learning and technical knowledge advancement.
  • Detail-oriented with a customer-focused approach.
  • OPG Clearance is required.
  • Due to the nature of the work, compliance with mandated nuclear export control requirements is necessary for employment.
