The Academic Management Systems team operates within the IT Services department, providing essential systems and support for the daily operations of various faculties. Our team comprises business analysts and application developers who embrace an agile mindset, focusing on delivering value to enhance the SFU experience for staff and faculty through the development of modern IT solutions.

Role Overview

This position will spearhead the transition team tasked with the comprehensive migration of business processes for three faculties into an enterprise solution. As the product owner for this significant transition, you will guide the team in conducting fit-gap analyses, integration assessments, and ensuring a seamless migration of all business processes into the new system. Your responsibilities will include defining and prioritizing the product backlog, establishing the vision for the transition, and aligning the team's efforts with the strategic objectives of the organization. Your leadership will be crucial in navigating the transition team through an agile, iterative approach, ensuring that each incremental change contributes to the overall success of the migration.

This role demands a proven history of working within an agile framework, with the ability to swiftly adapt, prioritize effectively, and deliver high-quality outcomes in a dynamic environment. You will engage with stakeholders to gather and refine requirements, assess fit-gaps with existing systems, manage expectations, and ensure that their needs are met and exceeded throughout the transition process. Expertise in agile methodologies will be vital for cultivating a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and efficiency, driving the transition to a successful conclusion. Your focus will be on delivering valuable, user-centric solutions that align with the evolving needs of the organization.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management Information Systems, HR Management, or a related field, along with eight years of relevant experience as a Business Systems Analyst working with enterprise applications, preferably in the post-secondary education or public sector, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • In-depth knowledge of enterprise applications (e.g., Oracle Peoplesoft, Interfolio, etc.).
  • Exceptional business analysis skills, with a demonstrated ability to conduct complex business and systems process analysis and design to ensure solutions align with long-term business strategies.
  • Strong project management capabilities, with a proven track record of successfully managing multiple tasks.
  • Outstanding customer service, interpersonal, teamwork, and mentorship abilities.
  • Excellent analytical reasoning, problem-solving, time management, and organizational skills.
