Position Overview

AECOM Western Canada is actively seeking a Senior Communications Systems Engineer with expertise in Transportation Systems to enhance our multidisciplinary Systems Engineering team. This role involves contributing to a portfolio of ongoing and upcoming projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design comprehensive Communications sub-systems tailored to Transportation systems, including fibre optic and IP backbone networks, radio communications, integrated systems, passenger information systems, telephony, CCTV, access control, SCADA, and fire alarm systems.
  • Generate system design outputs such as block diagrams, riser diagrams, network layouts, equipment configurations, cable schedules, and bill of materials.
  • Create detailed design reports for all phases of the project lifecycle.
  • Develop testing protocols and documentation to support design validation and verification.
  • Prepare Issued for Construction drawings and documentation packages.
  • Engage in the Systems implementation phase, including installation, testing, commissioning, and final reporting.
  • Assist in procurement by drafting technical specifications, evaluating vendor bids, and aiding in vendor selection.
  • Oversee and coordinate with Systems vendors until project completion.
  • Collaborate with various technical disciplines such as Electrical, Mechanical, Structural, and Civil to ensure seamless integration of Systems interfaces.
  • Manage System Interfaces and develop Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
  • Lead technical discussions with clients and stakeholders.
  • Provide technical training to client personnel.
  • Contribute to project planning documentation.
  • Participate in Requirements Management activities.
  • Assist in cost estimation, project scheduling, and budgeting.
  • Conduct technical reviews of team members' designs.
  • Engage in project pursuit initiatives.
  • Mentor junior staff as part of team development.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in Systems design for rail and transit projects.
  • Professional Engineer designation.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8 or more years of experience in rail and transit systems.
  • Experience with transit systems in Western Canada is preferred; experience in Eastern Canada is a plus.
  • Background in Owner's Engineer roles.
  • Experience in designing IP backbone networks, integrated communication systems, passenger information systems, and safety systems.
  • Familiarity with Testing & Commissioning, Cutover, and Operations & Maintenance processes.
  • Knowledge of relevant codes and standards for rail projects.
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary project environment.
  • Self-driven with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to travel for work.
