Job Title: Special Education Teacher Long Term Assignment

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Special Education Teacher to join our dynamic team at Sudbury Catholic District School Board. This is a long-term occasional teaching position that offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of our students.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality instruction and support to students with special needs in a dynamic and inclusive learning environment. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and parents to ensure student success.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that meet the unique needs of each student
  • Provide instruction and support in a variety of settings, including classrooms, resource rooms, and community-based settings
  • Collaborate with colleagues and parents to ensure student progress and success
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in special education
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of school-wide initiatives that promote student success and well-being
Requirements:
  • Current membership in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers
  • Qualifications in Primary and Junior Divisions
  • Special Education Specialist qualification or a minimum of two (2) years of experience working as a Special Education Resource Teacher (SERT)
  • Knowledge of current Ministry initiatives
  • Excellent English and French language communication skills, both oral and written
  • Sound knowledge of evidence-based assessment practices, including the use of diagnostic assessments to inform teaching and learning
  • A commitment to supporting the use of technology in instruction and learning, and to promoting an environment of innovation and creativity that engages the 21st century learner
  • Working knowledge of the IPRC process and the IEP, as they relate to planning and programming
  • Knowledge, experience, and proven ability in utilizing differentiated instructional approaches within the classroom that support effective instruction and engage students
  • An ability to implement a shared vision consistent with the principles of Catholic Education and integrating the Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations throughout classroom practice
  • A willingness to participate in the school's ongoing literacy and numeracy initiatives
  • Proven ability to implement effective classroom management strategies
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability and commitment to working with students, staff, and parents
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to provide regular attendance
