Job Summary

The City of Ottawa's Recreation, Cultural and Facility Services department is seeking a qualified Arts Instructor to lead creative introductory arts programs for children and assist in the delivery of creative instruction in theatre, dance, music, visual, literary, and multi-media arts.

Responsibilities
  • Lead creative introductory arts programs for children
  • Assist in the delivery of creative instruction in theatre, dance, music, visual, literary, and multi-media arts
  • Develop and implement arts programs that promote creativity and self-expression
  • Work with children of various ages and abilities
  • Collaborate with other instructors and staff to develop and deliver arts programs
Requirements
  • Enrollment in Grade 11 participating in one or more of the following arts disciplines: theatre, dance, music, visual, literary, and multi-media arts or related field
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience practicing and/or teaching in a related discipline
  • Previous experience working with children in an arts instructional setting
  • Current Standard First Aid, CPR and/or AED certificates
  • AODA Customer Service/IASR Training
  • High Five training courses
Knowledge and Competencies
  • Knowledge of interpretive techniques, of aesthetic and technical concepts, and of handling of program materials in discipline of instruction
  • Working knowledge of general registration and visitor procedures
  • Working knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation and of corporate/departmental policies and procedures related to health and safety
  • Strong oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and listening skills
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Demonstrates leadership, initiative, and creativity
  • Organized, efficient and productive
  • Strong people skills
  • Flexibility and ability to work in a changing environment
Language Requirement

Various language requirements, locations may require English only, French only OR Bilingual competencies. Some positions require English oral, reading, and writing. Some positions required French oral, reading and writing.

Police Record Check

The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa's satisfaction.
