Position Overview:

The Senior Specialist Software Developer will play a crucial role within our agile scrum team, contributing to the design, development, and testing of our cutting-edge LightSpeed Software. This position involves active collaboration with testing and support teams to ensure thorough testing and efficient resolution of issues. The successful candidate will lead technical discussions, guide decision-making processes, and take ownership of specific software modules, ensuring their development, quality, and functionality.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Engage with experienced engineers in the design, coding, testing, and maintenance of software applications.
  • Develop, test, and maintain embedded software modules utilizing programming languages such as C++ and Python.
  • Assist in implementing networking solutions to ensure seamless communication between software components.
  • Contribute to the creation of software tools, libraries, and frameworks to improve overall product quality and efficiency.
  • Participate in code reviews, offering constructive feedback to enhance code quality and adherence to standards.
  • Collaborate with the team to troubleshoot and resolve software defects and technical challenges.
  • Lead the development of industry-leading embedded software testing methodologies.
  • Support the integration of software components on Linux operating systems.
  • Assist in testing and validating software features to ensure they meet specified requirements.
  • Utilize cloud technologies to enhance software deployment and management.
  • Work with cross-functional teams, including product managers and designers, to understand requirements and contribute to technical discussions.
  • Maintain organized documentation of software designs, processes, and development tasks.
  • Exhibit effective teamwork and communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of advanced satellite ground segment software systems, ensuring high performance, scalability, and reliability.

Education & Experience Required:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in software development and testing, particularly in embedded systems.
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts and protocols.
  • Proficiency in utilizing the Linux operating system.
  • High proficiency in C++ and Python for developing embedded software applications.
  • Familiarity with cloud technologies is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a diverse team environment.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Enthusiasm for learning new technologies and tools.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to producing high-quality software.
  • Ability to design software considering hardware resource constraints.
  • Experience in software development for satellite communication systems is a plus.

Decision Making & Supervision:

This role does not have direct reports but will involve collaboration with multi-disciplinary engineering teams.

Working Conditions:

  • This position offers a hybrid work environment.
  • Working conditions are generally comfortable and typical of an office setting.
  • International travel may be required.

The successful candidate must be eligible to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods program (CGP).
