Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Satellite System Specialist to join our LEO Payload Engineering team. As a key member of this team, you will play a crucial role in the success of the Telesat Lightspeed LEO satellite constellation program.

Main Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align payload design with overall network performance
  • Liaise with suppliers to ensure hardware development meets Telesat Lightspeed requirements
  • Monitor suppliers to ensure committed services and deliveries meet technical requirements and schedules
  • Interface with supplier engineering staff to resolve design, production, or test issues
  • Review and assess payload integration activities
  • Evaluate technical analysis presented by suppliers
  • Analyze design review data and participate in Preliminary, Critical, and Test Readiness Reviews
  • Provide technical reports on program status
  • Participate in In-Orbit Testing of satellite performance and provide recommendations for satellite acceptance and commissioning
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical/Aerospace (or equivalent) required
  • Minimum 12 years of relevant space industry experience
  • Firm background in satellite payload and/or payload unit engineering
  • Experience with optical communications and/or digital communications and/or space electronics an asset
  • Strong technical, presentation, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Familiarity with satellite/payload manufacturing and supply chain management
  • Comfortable with or willing to learn collaborative software such as Jira, Confluence, and Jama
  • Bilingual in English and French an asset
Decision Making & Supervision
  • In this role, you will have significant influence on payload technical monitoring for the Lightspeed program
  • You will need to make recommendations and decisions based on your experience and identify key risks and develop risk mitigation plans with suppliers
  • You may lead task teams in resolving technical problems or in spacecraft monitoring activities
  • You will provide technical guidance to senior and junior engineers from all groups
