Pension Compliance Analyst Job Description

Job Summary:

The Pension Compliance Analyst plays a critical role in ensuring the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA) effectively regulates pension plans. This position is responsible for identifying, reviewing, and verifying pension plans that have failed to file required reporting documents. The successful candidate will coordinate the preparation of delinquent filing notification letters, provide information to pension plan administrators, and facilitate voluntary compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze pension plan records to identify delinquent filings and coordinate the delinquency notification process.
  • Provide technical support to the Pension Risk Analysis Officer for the preparation of prosecution materials.
  • Update data on the Pension Database System and prepare statistical reports related to delinquent filings.
  • Act as the central contact for inquiries from pension plan administrators and respond to questions and provide information services to support compliance requirements.
  • Review and analyze requests for extensions under the Pension Benefits Act and assess whether rationale provided is acceptable.
  • Identify severely delinquent plans and commence the delinquency review process for possible prosecution.
  • Update the Pension Database System with information provided through proactive monitoring of case files.
  • Conduct ongoing review of Pension Database System records to identify pension plans with recurring delinquent filings and refer to the Pension Risk Analysis Officer for follow-up.
  • Conduct corporate searches and retrieve information from internal and external sources to aid in the investigation of non-compliant companies.
  • Prepare and/or participate in the preparation of analytical reports and briefing materials, and provide recommendations on branch operational policy/procedures related to compliance issues.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of relevant sections of the Pension Benefits Act and related regulations and FSRA policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Ability to analyze pension plan records on the PDRD system and identify delinquent filings.
  • Strong research and organizational skills to gather and compile documents and information.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to provide information to pension plan administrators and respond to inquiries.
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure environment and meet critical deadlines.
