Electrical Operations Tradesperson

Main Responsibilities

The Electrician will perform a variety of skilled shop and field duties at the journeyperson level, including the installation, repair, and maintenance of facilities, street lighting, and traffic signal systems.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform electrical maintenance, installation, and construction of a wide variety of equipment, including industrial control systems, power distribution equipment, high voltage equipment, and generators.
  • Perform general commercial-level electrical maintenance and installation in City buildings, which may include telephone and data cabling, battery chargers, UPS's, small equipment repairs, lighting, and sound systems.
  • Ensure a high degree of accuracy in performing tasks according to instructions, and receive written and verbal assignments, which may be accompanied by sketches or blueprints.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and ongoing tasks.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
  • Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by completion of a recognized apprenticeship in the Electrical Trades.
  • Interprovincial certificate in Electrical Trades (Red Seal) or BC Trades Qualification in the Electrical Trade.
  • Experience with traffic signal, street lighting, installation, and maintenance, including experience in an industrial, electrical, or commercial work environment is an asset.
  • A current and valid class 5 or higher BC Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record is required.
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced environment, with a focus on providing excellent customer service and ensuring the safety of the public and City staff.

The Electrician will work in a variety of settings, including outdoors in inclement weather, and may be required to work at heights or in confined spaces.

The successful candidate will be required to work a shift schedule, including nights, evenings, weekends, and weekdays, with a paid shift differential.
