About the Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Therapeutic Assistant to join our Recreation Therapy team at Nova Scotia Health. As a member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide support to patients, families, and healthcare professionals through the incorporation of facilitation techniques and participation in leisure/recreation activities.

Under the direction of the Recreation Therapist and appropriate healthcare team members, you will work cooperatively to carry out individual treatment plans and communicate patient-specific information to enhance the level of knowledge of the treatment team.

About You
  • Completion of year one from an accredited Therapeutic Recreation program, including the Therapeutic Recreation Foundations Course
  • Current certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) is an asset
  • Behaviour Modification Skills
  • Leisure/Recreation related knowledge and skills to support patient care plans for transition
  • Understanding of a multi-disciplinary treatment team approaches within acute care and along the continuum of care
  • Understanding of patient populations in acute care with cognitive and/or responsive behaviors
  • Ability to work in a high-paced acute care environment
  • Strong communication skills, both verbally and written
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Competencies in other languages preferred; French an asset
Hours
  • Long assignment, Part-time position; 60 hours bi-weekly
  • Approximately a 15-month assignment
Compensation and Benefits

$23.86 Hourly
