The Role

We are seeking a skilled Tech Specialist to join our team. As a Tech Specialist, you will be responsible for operating facility systems, performing preventative and corrective maintenance, and routine services on facility mechanical and other systems for the assigned facility within the limits of company policy and trade certification.

Key Responsibilities

  • Installation & Troubleshooting
    • Install air conditioning, heating, and related equipment and components.
    • Overhaul and service air conditioning, heating units, and systems.
    • Repair, replace, and adjust worn or broken parts HVAC equipment.
    • Repair and adjust valves, piping connections, fittings, and couplings.
    • Diagnose and troubleshoot problems with heating and air conditioning units and systems.
    • Install motors, thermostats, and humidistats.
  • Maintenance
    • Respond to routine and on-demand service requests and perform preventative and corrective maintenance activities at assigned facility.
    • Perform regular monitoring, inspection, preventative, and corrective maintenance to ensure facility uptime and safety objectives are met, uninterrupted client operation, and asset integrity of assigned facility is maintained.
    • Monitor assigned facility by conducting facility walkthroughs, mechanical, and electrical equipment and systems monitoring.
    • Assist in the implementation of preventative maintenance (PM) program. Ensure that deficiencies are identified, recorded, and escalated, and that related documentations are maintained.
    • Maintain accurate inventory of all assigned tools/equipment and arrange for repair and replacement where required.
    • Perform work in accordance with established processes and practices.
    • Comply with all internal and external requirements, including but not limited to environmental, health, and safety, fire protection.
  • Client Relations
    • Provide observations about facility, facility mechanical conditions, and deficiencies and provide recommendations for enhancement and repair.
    • Participate in and assist with facility-related projects.
  • Administration
    • Participate in and assist with facility-related projects.
    • Ensure the manner in which work is performed is in compliance with corporate and legislated policies, procedures, practices, and guidelines related to environmental, health, and safety, fire protection, and any other applicable requirements.
    • Maintain all assigned tools and arrange for repair and replacement where required.
    • Submit all expenditures on a timely basis.
    • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • College Diploma/Certification required.
  • Experience required as a licensed HVAC/Refrigeration Technician.
  • Strong ability to adhere and to properly execute processes and practices relating to facility operations and maintenance.
  • Ability to maintain building mechanical and other system troubleshooting and resolution skills.
  • Current knowledge of fire, life, safety, and building codes and standards and ability to research and apply related codes and standards.
  • Possesses a strong environmental, health, and safety mindset. Ability to perform work in a safe manner.
  • Strong client-service orientation along with a high sense of urgency.
  • Effective communication skills for the purpose of data relay, exchange, feedback, and clarification.
  • Mentoring skills required to support lower-level technicians' development.
  • Must be able and willing to work shifts, be available for on-call/standby, and emergency call-outs as they arise.
  • Must be willing to wear Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Must meet enhanced security clearance requirements.
  • Valid drivers' license.

Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation

  • Must hold a valid HVAC Certificate of Qualification issued by the province in which the work is performed.
  • Gasfitter I & II license in addition to refrigeration license, an asset.
  • Working towards Building Environment Systems (BES) Operation Class 1, an asset.
  • Facilities Technician Certification through an accredited institution, considered an asset.
  • Systems Maintenance Technician (SMT), considered an asset.
