You are looking to enhance essential nursing skills. Registered Nurses in this unit acquire comprehensive knowledge in both simple and complex wound management, which significantly benefits their nursing careers. This includes advanced ostomy care and VAC dressing techniques. Additionally, you will gain valuable experience in sophisticated pain management approaches, such as Ketamine and lidocaine infusions, along with local nerve blocks.
If you are interested in this specialization but lack prior experience, this unit provides an excellent entry-point with robust educational and training support. We offer full-time mentorship (4-6 weeks) that includes regular check-ins to ensure you feel confident in delivering high-quality care to this patient demographic. Senior nurses on this team possess extensive knowledge in IBD care, including post-operative management and addressing potential complications. They are enthusiastic about teaching and guiding nurses who are new to this specialization or the nursing profession.
About the Unit:
Our unit is a -bed facility and a member of Sinai Health's Centre for Inflammatory Bowel Disease, dedicated to the inpatient medical and surgical management of clients with IBD.
The unit primarily focuses on IBD care while also providing a variety of additional services, including General Surgery, Surgical Oncology, and Gastrointestinal Medicine (GI).
You will have the chance to gain specialized knowledge and skills in the clinical management of Crohn's disease and Ulcerative Colitis, in addition to pre-operative and post-operative patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct patient assessments and provide post-operative care Implement assessments and interventions related to central and peripheral infusion therapy Manage both simple and complex wound care utilizing methods such as VAC dressing and advanced ostomy care Administer medications, including TPN management Provide comprehensive pain and symptom management for both acute and chronic conditions (e.g., PCA pump, epidurals, continuous peripheral nerve blocks, Ketamine and lidocaine infusion) Perform other duties consistent with the job classification, as requiredJob Requirements

Current certificate of registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) Graduate of a CNO-approved bachelor's degree in nursing program, or equivalent combined education and experience Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certificationPreferred
