Our Edmonton Zone Continuing Care division offers a variety of services across five key program areas: Home Living, Supportive Living, Facility Living, Transition Services, and Palliative Care. We are seeking a dedicated Therapy Assistant to join our Home Living team, providing essential support services to clients of diverse ages and life stages. This role involves collaboration within a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, including nursing and allied health specialists. Together, we conduct home or site visits to deliver personalized services to individuals facing a range of physical, cognitive, and mental health challenges, including complex health needs.

Role Overview:

As a Therapy Assistant, you will work autonomously and as part of an interprofessional team under the guidance of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist, or speech-language pathologist. Your contributions will be vital in delivering effective rehabilitation services, encompassing both direct and indirect client care across the healthcare spectrum, from promoting healthy living to supporting individuals with illnesses and disabilities, and providing end-of-life care. This position requires effective collaboration with both internal and external partners, showcasing professionalism and strong ethical standards in client-centered care and teamwork. You will be expected to engage in reflective practice and continuous learning to enhance both individual and team competencies. Opportunities will arise for you to utilize your interpersonal and clinical skills in quality improvement initiatives, program development, and student mentorship.

Required Qualifications:

A diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training is required.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Basic Cardiac Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification is necessary. Strong communication and assessment skills are essential for effective collaboration with healthcare team members, clients, and their families in a dynamic environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate sound professional judgment, initiative, and proficient time management abilities. The successful applicant will be expected to work independently in various client home settings, which may include congregate living arrangements, single-family homes, condominiums, and walk-up apartments. Physical capability to lift and transport medical supplies weighing approximately 25-30 lbs is required. During the interview process, candidates may be asked to demonstrate their computer proficiency through a practical assessment, including typing speed and navigation of various software applications such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), Visio, Outlook, and Internet.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in a Continuing Care environment is advantageous. Familiarity with Meditech and Connect Care systems, as well as experience in Palliative Care, is preferred.
