Role Overview
The Portfolio Accountant will be an integral member of our portfolio accounting team, reporting directly to the Manager – Investment Management. This role is responsible for providing financial accounting support to the team, requiring a strong attention to detail and the ability to organize, prioritize and manage time in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly and quarterly reports, including cash and share capital transactions, and maintain the portfolio level general ledger – monthly accruals and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Assist in the compilation of the quarterly financial statements and reporting packages, and prepare the real estate monthly and quarterly actual cashflow schedule for delivery to the Financial Planning and Analysis team.
- Process invoices & payments on an ad hoc basis, and prepare and maintain monthly government and regulatory filings (ie. HST/GST/QST returns, Statistics Canada reports).
- Prepare and reconcile monthly and quarterly return calculations, and maintain the financial records for intercompany transactions, contributions, distributions, legal and tax compliance.
- Support processes for interim and year-end external audit, and assist in the preparation of annual budget and forecast reporting.
- Support ad-hoc and various projects as they arise.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Enrolled in mid-level of the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) program.
- 2+ years related experience in accounting/financial analysis.
- Strong organizational, time management, problem-solving and analytical skills.
- A strong work ethic, detailed oriented, ability to allocate time effectively, work under pressure and manage tight deadlines; ability to handle multiple demands, and prioritize.
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
- Ability to effectively partner and liaise with all levels of the business and develop and sustain cooperative working relationships with internal team members and external contacts.
- Ability to exercise confidentiality and places priority on client service.
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and SharePoint.
- Prior experience with Yardi Voyager is an asset.
