Role Overview

The Portfolio Accountant will be responsible for providing financial accounting support to the portfolio accounting team. The successful candidate will have a strong attention to detail and be able to organize, prioritize, and manage time in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports, including cash and share capital transactions
  • Maintain the portfolio level general ledger, including monthly accruals and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Assist in the compilation of quarterly financial statements and reporting packages
  • Prepare real estate monthly and quarterly actual cashflow schedules for delivery to the finance team
  • Process invoices and payments on an ad hoc basis
  • Prepare and maintain monthly government and regulatory filings, including HST/GST/QST returns and Statistics Canada reports
  • Reconcile monthly and quarterly return calculations
  • Maintain financial records for intercompany transactions, contributions, distributions, legal, and tax compliance
  • Support processes for interim and year-end external audits
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budget and forecast reporting
  • Support ad-hoc and various projects as they arise

Requirements

  • Enrolled in mid-level of the CPA program
  • 2+ years related experience in accounting/financial analysis
  • Strong organizational, time management, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • A strong work ethic, detail-oriented, and able to allocate time effectively, work under pressure, and manage tight deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to effectively partner and liaise with all levels of the business and develop and sustain cooperative working relationships with internal team members and external contacts
  • Ability to exercise confidentiality and prioritize client service
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and SharePoint
  • Prior experience with Yardi Voyager is an asset
