Join Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a Nurse Practitioner
The Emergency Services team is in search of enthusiastic and skilled Nurse Practitioners to deliver comprehensive care to patients categorized as CTAS 3, 4, and 5. The collaborative team is eager to incorporate Nurse Practitioners into their care model. Successful applicants will receive support for professional development. Full-time equivalents (FTEs) are negotiable. Become a part of our expanding team of Nurse Practitioners in a hospital setting.
VCH is excited to offer reimbursement for the Objective Structured Clinical Exam (OSCE) for Nurse Practitioners who are newly hired into regular or temporary positions and have not yet completed the exam. This reimbursement will be provided as a forgivable loan, waived after one year of continuous employment in a regular or temporary role with VCH.
Responsibilities of the Nurse Practitioner at VCH include:
Conducting thorough assessments of patients, including diagnosing various health conditions. Initiating treatment plans, managing healthcare, and prescribing medications in line with regulatory standards and organizational policies. Offering professional advice to fellow healthcare providers and functioning independently as part of interdisciplinary teams. Collaborating with patients and other healthcare professionals to identify and analyze trends that impact clients, families, and communities. Developing and executing evidence-based strategies to enhance health outcomes and engaging in policy-making and quality improvement initiatives. Participating in peer reviews and self-assessments to evaluate service outcomes at various levels. Taking responsibility for personal professional growth and maintaining competency in the role, including necessary medical staff privileges. Reporting to an Operational Director, Professional Practice, with key responsibilities for quality assurance and patient safety within the Nurse Practitioners' Regional Department.Required Qualifications
Current registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) and a minimum of four years of relevant clinical nursing experience. Successful completion of the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) is mandatory.
Educational Background & Experience
Active registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the BCCNM. Four years of recent, relevant clinical nursing experience. Successful completion of the OSCE is required.Skills & Competencies
Ability to perform the full range of Nurse Practitioner duties. Maintain core and non-core privileges as required by the program as active medical staff within the VCH Regional Department of Nurse Practitioners. Proficient in applying knowledge of developmental stages, behavioral sciences, and clinical diagnosis. Skilled in pharmacology and evaluating treatment responses. Capable of effective communication and collaboration with patients regarding health findings and treatment plans. Ability to consult and refer clients to other healthcare professionals when necessary. Competent in assessing health research literature to identify best practices. Skilled in recognizing population health trends and implementing prevention strategies. Capable of leading planned changes and defining specific areas of practice. Possess leadership skills within a team environment. Physically able to perform the responsibilities of the position.Conclusion
