About the Role

The Health and Safety Manager will provide expert guidance and support to ensure a safe and healthy work environment for employees, contractors, and visitors at PET VALU distribution centers. This role will drive the execution of occupational health and safety initiatives, including policy development, procedure implementation, and training programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Governance
    • Develop and implement health and safety policies, procedures, and programs to ensure regulatory compliance and a safe work environment.
    • Provide guidance and support to management and employees on health and safety matters.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate health and safety into business operations.
  • Risk Management and Compliance
    • Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies to reduce workplace hazards.
    • Monitor and report on health and safety metrics, including incident rates and regulatory compliance.
    • Ensure compliance with Canadian health and safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Training and Development
    • Develop and deliver training programs on health and safety best practices, including job hazard analysis and accident investigation.
    • Provide coaching and mentoring to employees on health and safety matters.
    • Collaborate with the Learning department to develop health and safety training materials.
  • Communication and Collaboration
    • Communicate health and safety information to employees, management, and stakeholders.
    • Collaborate with joint health and safety committees to ensure effective communication and participation.
    • Participate in regular safety inspections and audits to identify and mitigate hazards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Health and Safety or related field.
  • CRSP, CHSC, or similar designation an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in a safety role, preferably in retail, food service, or hospitality.
  • Experience in the distribution center/logistics/transportation industry an asset.

  • Proven track record of driving cultural change in safety.
  • Experience with assessing job hazards and completing accident investigations.
