The Site Medical Director & Chief of Staff at Island Health is a pivotal leadership role encompassing two key functions: As the Site Medical Director, this position collaborates closely with the Site Director to ensure cohesive and high-quality service delivery across the site. In the capacity of Chief of Staff, the role directly engages with Department Heads and Division Heads to oversee and enhance medical governance within the facility.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership: Co-leads and supervises initiatives to guarantee integrated service delivery at the site; Collaborates with relevant Departmental Medical Leaders to address physician governance matters, including professional medical practice concerns.
  2. Operations & Quality: Jointly monitors site performance, focusing on inter-program issues, and facilitates necessary adjustments; Ensures thorough investigation and resolution of site-related incidents; Works alongside Departmental Medical Leaders and Medical Affairs to tackle individual practitioner quality challenges.
  3. Change Management: Co-develops and executes change management strategies to engage and support site physicians and staff during transitions.
  4. Informatics: Oversees initiatives that leverage technology and data utilization to enhance service delivery, particularly through the electronic health records (EHR) system in partnership with the Quality Systems team.
  5. Planning: Evaluates, monitors, and anticipates site resource requirements, collaborating with medical and administrative leaders to prioritize these needs within the available resources.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates in a co-leadership model with the designated Site Director.
  • Chairs or co-chairs relevant site committees.
  • Engages in orientation and training activities.
