Position Overview:
As a key member of the Medical Affairs team, the Community Engagement Specialist will play a pivotal role in driving scientific excellence and leadership across a diverse range of Medical Affairs initiatives associated with specific therapeutic areas and products.
This role involves evaluating, supporting, and executing local research strategies aimed at addressing critical data gaps while enhancing the scientific and clinical comprehension of GlaxoSmithKline's (GSK) medicinal offerings.
The Specialist will be responsible for fostering external scientific and clinical dialogues with the medical community, ensuring that the voice of the customer is effectively integrated back into the organization. This includes managing one-on-one interactions, advisory boards, medical education initiatives, congress presentations, publications, and sponsorships.
Collaborating closely with the Medical team, cross-functional teams, and global partners, the Specialist will provide scientific and clinical expertise, guidance, and technical leadership on GSK products within the Canadian market. This includes the development and execution of a comprehensive, integrated medical strategy and customer engagement plans.
The role requires delivering expert scientific knowledge regarding products and diseases, along with trusted medical leadership to GSK Canada and international Medical Networks.
Responsibilities include:
- Building and leveraging high-quality scientific knowledge and expertise across the organization in partnership with Medical Strategic Operations and Capability Excellence.
- Ensuring external engagement excellence through timely, responsible, and responsive interactions with the medical and scientific community, fostering a two-way trusted scientific partnership.
- Regularly reviewing and analyzing data analytics and medical customer feedback to derive insights and formulate action plans aligned with the medical strategy.
- Leading the development and implementation of a localized Medical Strategic Plan for assigned therapeutic areas, which encompasses:
- Identifying areas of research interest and developing timely local study protocols to enhance the scientific understanding of GSK medications.
- Recognizing medical education needs and advisory board requirements, overseeing their implementation and follow-up.
- Ensuring alignment with commercial strategic planning.
- Delivering study reports and local publications related to research activities.
- Supporting the Therapeutic Area Director in reviewing medical grant and donation requests, ensuring alignment with therapeutic area strategies.
- Managing therapy-aligned medical content to support the Global Healthcare Professional Engagement Initiative.
- Ensuring that all produced materials are medically and scientifically accurate and comply with local and GSK standards.
The ideal candidate will possess the ability to apply scientific knowledge effectively and lead research initiatives, with a strong capability to leverage scientific insights. A postgraduate scientific degree (MD, PhD, PharmD) is required, along with industry experience in Medical Affairs, particularly in the Respiratory field. The candidate should demonstrate a strategic partnership approach with commercial functions and possess solid project management skills.
