Position Overview
The Physiotherapist in the Acute Care Unit plays a crucial role in evaluating the physical capabilities of patients and providing treatment, rehabilitation, and preventive care for physical impairments, injuries, or discomfort. This position requires a professional who can identify issues and take decisive action. You will be expected to demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, effectively engaging with physicians, staff, patients, and their families. A high level of professionalism is essential, as is the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality patient care in accordance with established physiotherapy standards and practices.
- Conduct thorough assessments and analyze clinical findings to create tailored treatment plans for patients.
- Implement evidence-based physiotherapy techniques relevant to patient conditions.
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient health records and collaborate with healthcare team members as needed.
- Provide educational programs for hospital staff and community groups, and supervise physiotherapy support personnel.
- Engage in continuous professional development through education and literature review.
- Facilitate patient and family education as appropriate.
- Monitor productivity statistics and ensure compliance with health and safety policies.
- Utilize best practice guidelines to develop effective physiotherapy care plans and organizational policies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy from an accredited institution; Master's degree preferred.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
- Minimum one year of relevant experience in an acute care hospital setting.
- Registered with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario.
- Preferred membership with the Canadian Physiotherapy Association.
- Familiarity with mental health regulations as required.
- Proficient in computer applications, including MS Word and patient information systems.
- Assistive Devices Program Authorizer status for Wheelchairs & Mobility Devices preferred.
- Bilingualism in French and English is an asset.
