Join a team of proficient technologists dedicated to the upkeep and enhancement of our extensive, globally deployed VMware-based infrastructure. The company's virtualization framework is a vast, internationally distributed system, centrally configured and managed through a suite of integrated open-source and proprietary tools. This encompasses a range of configuration components alongside various user-space tools and libraries. We seek an engineer capable of devising solutions that simplify the management, configuration, and support of this diverse infrastructure, ensuring a stable operational environment.
The ideal candidate will engage in the development of our provisioning system and additional tools to support the infrastructure. This includes providing APIs and a command-line interface that enables system administrators, developers, and application support teams to construct and manage the configuration of Virtual Machines.
Essential Skills:
- Proficient in Python and Perl programming, with a focus on writing secure, testable, and robust code.
- Experience with large-scale (10k+ lines) collaboratively developed modular projects.
- Familiarity with SQL and database programming.
- Exposure to contemporary development tools and methodologies, including git, Jenkins, agile practices, and continuous integration.
- Ability to collaborate effectively on development tasks, including code reviews, providing specifications, implementing others' specifications, and creating documentation.
- In-depth knowledge of Linux, with familiarity in UNIX system calls.
- Experience in backend server development for state-based distributed systems that offer highly available APIs.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience in a large, multinational enterprise across various industry sectors, demonstrating effective communication and collaboration within globally distributed teams.
- Experience in designing, implementing, and supporting large-scale production IaaS platforms, particularly with virtualization technologies like VMware.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across hardware, operating systems, networks, and storage solutions.
- Knowledge of additional programming languages, such as Erlang or Prolog.
Team Overview:
The Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) Engineering group within the Core Infrastructure division is responsible for the design and implementation of the firm's extensive global Linux and Virtualization infrastructure. The team engages in the evaluation, certification, integration, and maintenance of a wide array of products, including hardware, hypervisor platforms, Linux OS platforms, system configurations, critical infrastructure services (DNS, DHCP, NTP, etc.), high availability solutions, and virtualization management technologies.
