Job Description

Lighthouse is a virtual clinic that provides medical treatment and short-term stabilization for individuals struggling with substance use. Our team consists of addiction medicine physicians, nurses, and social workers who work closely with local service providers to support patients in their home communities. Currently, we serve the Vancouver region, with plans to expand to the Sea to Sky Corridor and other areas within the Vancouver Region. Our clinic operates out of St Paul's Hospital.

Job Summary

The Clinical Nurse Leader/Nurse Educator coordinates the day-to-day operations of a designated nursing unit or service and supervises staff. As a clinical resource, they provide direct care to patients, assist in promoting research and quality improvement initiatives, and develop educational programs for nursing staff and patients/families.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinates the day-to-day activities of the assigned unit or service by supervising staff, monitoring work, and providing critical input on employee performance.
  • Acts as a clinical resource to nursing staff, students, and interdisciplinary team members by demonstrating procedures, answering questions, and problem-solving.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates educational programs within the clinical area, including coaching staff in clinical nursing skills and behaviors.
  • Reviews policies, procedures, and reference materials for nursing staff and makes recommendations for changes.
  • Provides clinical consultation to internal and external healthcare professionals in their area of expertise.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates patient education programs, leading group patient/family sessions as required.
  • Performs direct nursing care, including physical assessment and administering medications and treatments.
  • Participates in multi-disciplinary rounds and provides input regarding patient and family progress.
  • Identifies trends in patient outcomes and recommends program modifications to the Patient Care Manager.
  • Promotes the use of research findings into practice and supports research activities and quality improvement initiatives.
Requirements
  • Registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant.
  • Qualifications required of staff nurse in clinical area, plus three years of recent related experience in clinical specialty, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to coach and supervise, demonstrate knowledge and ability to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures, and match skills of staff with clinical needs.
  • Ability to identify learning needs, develop educational programs, and provide and/or develop resource materials.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and role model conflict resolution strategies.
  • Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team, apply decision-making and analytical skills, and organize and prioritize work independently.
Vaccination Requirement

As per the current Public Health Orders, all employees working for Providence Health Care must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
