Your Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, the Occupational Health and Safety Specialist will be instrumental in upholding the highest standards of health and safety across the organization. This role involves the implementation, assessment, promotion, and continuous enhancement of Minto's integrated health and safety initiatives. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, resourceful, and detail-oriented, with the ability to prioritize tasks, exercise sound judgment, and deliver high-quality work while demonstrating excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Key Duties Include:
- Collaborating with Minto Properties Inc. and Minto Apartment REIT to implement and manage the Health & Safety program.
- Ensuring adherence to the Corporate Health & Safety Program for all employees and properties.
- Advocating for the highest standards of health and safety.
- Supporting property operations and industrial construction projects.
- Conducting inspections to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Utilizing administrative procedures and evaluation tools to monitor program effectiveness.
- Keeping Minto Properties Inc. and Minto Apartment REIT informed of legislative changes affecting operations.
- Conducting proactive reviews of the Health & Safety program with input from management and staff.
- Working with project teams to ensure compliance for new initiatives.
- Integrating health and safety into operational practices.
- Maintaining records of incidents and monitoring trends to enhance safety controls.
- Assisting with injury reporting and facilitating safe return-to-work processes.
- Ensuring effective operation of Health and Safety Committees.
- Verifying employee compliance with health and safety training requirements.
- Keeping training records updated and identifying gaps.
- Ensuring completion and documentation of health and safety tasks.
- Providing training and safety talks as necessary.
- Investigating incidents to prevent recurrence and maintaining records.
- Assisting with emergency response plans and procedures.
- Providing after-hours support during emergencies as needed.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety.
- A recognized health and safety designation is advantageous.
- Certification as a health and safety lead or internal auditor is beneficial.
Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience in health and safety program management and development.
- Experience in industrial and construction sectors is essential.
- Strong understanding of workplace roles and responsibilities.
- Current certification in Standard First Aid.
- Certification as a Joint Health and Safety Committee member is a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and health and safety software.
- Familiarity with applicable legislation related to workplace safety.
