Position Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Operations Manager to oversee our team in the Kenora region. This role is ideal for a strategic leader who possesses exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, along with a solid background in highway maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily operations by organizing, directing, and supervising the work assigned to staff within the Area Maintenance Contract, including foremen and maintenance personnel.
  • Manage work procedures, scheduling, cost control, and ensure project compliance with national, local, and company standards.
  • Promote cost-effective operations and foster collaboration among staff while monitoring manpower and equipment utilization for optimal productivity.
  • Ensure effective use of personnel and equipment by managing all field equipment assigned to the Patrol Centre.
  • Assist in preparing Minor Capital Works, Work Orders, and Extra Work as needed, managing field operations once approved in response to regulatory requests.
  • Handle the preparation of subcontracts and manage subcontractors post-contract award.
  • Provide administrative support, including staff recruitment and management.
  • Approve time sheets, overtime, expense accounts, manage material inventories, prepare shift schedules, and ensure accurate completion of records.
  • Utilize the Quality Management System to achieve project goals and maintain high standards of workmanship.
  • Encourage a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of Grade 12 education, with a preference for a degree from a Technical College or University in a related field.
  • Extensive knowledge of Road and Bridge Maintenance Standards in Ontario's privatized maintenance environment.
  • Valid DZ license in good standing with proven experience.
  • Several years of experience managing daily operations of crews in road and bridge maintenance.
  • Proficient in computer applications including spreadsheets, cost accounting, project management, and word processing.
  • Understanding of Provincial Commercial Regulatory and Occupational Health & Safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of WSIB rules and regulations.
  • Strong supervisory, organizational, leadership, communication, and public relations skills.
  • Experience in a unionized environment is an asset.
