Job Summary

The Halifax Regional Municipality is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Utility Operator 2 - EMA/Service Truck to join our Infrastructure Maintenance & Operations team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for operating a variety of equipment, including service trucks, and performing general labor duties in various locations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate service trucks and other equipment safely and efficiently
  • Perform general labor duties, including responding to public hazards and eliminating debris
  • Monitor a service phone and communicate with the corporate call center
  • Contribute to meeting the operational objectives of the business unit and HRM
  • Perform other related duties as required
Requirements
  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Valid Class 5 Nova Scotia Driver's License with air brake endorsement
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience operating vehicles with a capacity greater than 3000 kg G.V.W.
  • Good driving record
  • Compactor Truck qualified or willing to obtain within 30 days
  • Service Truck Operator trained or willing to obtain within one week
  • Good attendance and work record
  • WHMIS, CPR/First Aid Certification or ability to successfully complete
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of garbage collection and disposal procedures
  • Knowledge of equipment cleaning standards and procedures
  • Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Organization and planning skills
Working Conditions

This is a permanent, full-time position working 40 hours per week, Wednesday to Sunday, 11:00pm to 7:00am. The salary is $26.97 per hour, as per the CUPE Local 108 Collective Agreement.
