Role Overview:

As a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse, you will be instrumental in delivering comprehensive nursing care to individuals facing complex challenges related to mental health and substance use. Your expertise will be vital in addressing the diverse needs of clients who may also experience homelessness and various physical health issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver nursing interventions to clients with concurrent psychiatric disorders and substance misuse.
  • Provide direct health services to individuals presenting with a range of acute and chronic health conditions, including communicable diseases and mental health issues.
  • Conduct thorough physical, addiction, and psychiatric evaluations.
  • Collaborate with physicians for further assessments and administer prescribed treatments and medications.
  • Monitor, document, and evaluate client progress, symptoms, and behavioral changes while implementing various healthcare interventions.
  • Educate and support clients and groups through a health promotion framework.
  • Work in partnership with other healthcare professionals, clients, families, and community resources.

Required Qualifications:

  • Active registration as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse or Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM).
  • A minimum of two years of recent experience in providing acute or community health nursing services to clients with concurrent psychiatric and/or substance use disorders, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Essential Skills and Knowledge:

  • Commitment to understanding and integrating the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action and related reports into practice.
  • Dedication to fostering meaningful reconciliation in Canada as outlined by the TRC and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.
  • Knowledge of the socio-economic, political, and historical factors affecting Indigenous communities, along with familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism initiatives.
