Your Role as a Direct Support ProfessionalAs a Direct Support Professional, you will play a vital role in enhancing the lives of individuals who are deafblind. You will work collaboratively with them to develop personalized plans that promote their independence, well-being, and personal growth.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide comprehensive support tailored to each individual's needs, communication preferences, and goals, fostering their independence and enriching their lives.
- Advocate passionately for the individuals we serve, ensuring their unique needs and aspirations are met.
- Maintain a professional demeanor in all interactions with colleagues, families, guardians, and community members.
- Utilize various communication methods, including ASL, SEE, LSQ, and others, to facilitate effective communication and information exchange.
- Adhere to medical treatment plans and procedures outlined by healthcare professionals, completing all required documentation accurately.
- Embrace the philosophy of 'do with, not for,' empowering individuals to realize their full potential through active participation and support.
- Assist with meal preparation and healthy food choices, adhering to specific dietary requirements.
- Implement behavioral strategies developed by behavioral professionals, diligently tracking and reporting progress.
- Provide personal care as needed, including assistance with lifts, transfers, toileting, and personal hygiene.
- Support individuals in managing their personal finances, budgeting, and maintaining up-to-date financial records.
- Minimum of one year of post-secondary education.
- Up to one year of related work experience is preferred.
- Commitment to ongoing training and development in sensory loss support.
- A valid G Driver's License is an asset.
