Redpath Sugar Ltd. is a leading manufacturer of sugar products, with a rich history spanning over 160 years. Our company is part of ASR Group, the largest cane sugar refiner in the world.

Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Sr. Process Engineer to join our team at the Canadian Centre of Excellence. This one-year program is designed to bring international professionals with experience in the sugar industry up to ASR standards.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in chemical engineering and a minimum of eight years of experience in a supervisory and/or technical position at a sugar refinery or factory. They will be responsible for becoming familiar with ASR regulations, software functions, and process items, as well as monitoring the technical performance of the plant and reporting situations where the plant is not meeting identified technical targets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Become familiar with ASR regulations in the areas of safety, quality, continuous improvement, environmental, and working in a unionized environment.
  • Become competent in ASR software functions, including process control HMI and the use of trends and statistical process control.
  • Access and use lab reports, daily shift reports, continuous improvement tools, SAP maintenance system, Kronos attendance system, and Visikum.
  • Familiarize yourself with ASR services, including steam, power, and compressed air supply, lake water cooling system, condensate management, waste water treatment, mud disposal, resin, and carbon transfer.
  • Familiarize yourself with process items, including salt and lime offloading, specials transfer, yellow sugar transfer, sugar supply to packaging, bulk and liquid sugar loading, and molasses storage.
  • Monitor the technical performance of the plant, including energy, water, sucrose loss, productivity, cost, and product quality.
  • Report situations where the plant is not meeting identified technical targets and recommend corrective actions.
  • Interface with all departments, including quality, process, maintenance, corporate engineering, and packaging.
  • Prepare process flow diagrams, including material, energy, and utility balances, based on existing equipment or recommended processes.
  • Assist in the training of operators when new projects are implemented or retraining is required.
  • Participate in all aspects of the safety, quality, and sustainability programs.
  • Shadow the process superintendent or process engineer when required.

Requirements

  • BS Chemical, Mechanical, or Sugar Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 8 years' sugar experience (a must)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Strong supervisory, technical, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Proven leadership and process improvements skills
  • Manage multiple priorities with overlapping tasks and work independently with minimal supervision
