POSITION OVERVIEW:

The City of Maple Ridge is in search of a meticulous and proactive Accounting Operations Manager to become an integral part of our finance team. Reporting directly to the Deputy Director of Finance, this essential position is responsible for overseeing the City's financial operations, which encompass accounts payable and receivable, the generation of internal financial reports, the preparation of consolidated financial statements, and the coordination of the annual audit process. Your role will be crucial in ensuring the precision and promptness of our financial reporting while adhering to all regulatory standards.

As the Accounting Operations Manager, you will lead a committed team of accounting professionals, establish effective financial controls, and deliver strategic financial insights that align with the City's objectives. This role presents a complex and diverse work environment, necessitating significant independent judgment in managing accounting operations. Key issues will be discussed collaboratively with superiors to ensure sound decision-making.

In this capacity, you will also formulate strategic and administrative recommendations, collaborating closely with other managers to enhance understanding of departmental functions and develop cross-training initiatives. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

A minimum of 5 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity, with substantial experience in progressively responsible accounting roles, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Extensive knowledge of municipal finance, accounting, and auditing principles, practices, and systems.
  • Thorough understanding of policies, procedures, by-laws, regulations, and acts governing departmental functions and operations.
  • Expertise in preparing various accounting, statistical, and financial statements, reports, and returns, along with the ability to interpret and apply relevant by-laws, regulations, acts, and policies.
  • Strong knowledge of public administration practices and procedures pertinent to the work performed.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in utilizing a variety of business software systems and computer data processing systems to fulfill departmental needs.
  • Familiarity with the functions, operations, and requirements of other finance sections and municipal departments as they relate to accounting.
  • Ability to plan, direct, and coordinate departmental operations effectively, meeting established deadlines and statutory requirements.
  • Skill in planning, assigning, supervising, evaluating, and reviewing the work of direct reports, including motivating, mentoring, and facilitating their professional development.
  • Capability to initiate, review, analyze, evaluate, and implement new accounting standards, policies, procedures, and operational controls.
  • Ability to collaborate on strategic initiatives, policy, and operational matters related to the department.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrated through the ability to facilitate, mediate, network, research, analyze, and resolve issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with proficiency in delivering presentations.
  • Ability to perform well under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.

LICENCES AND CERTIFICATES

Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.

HOURS OF WORK:

80 hours Bi-Weekly.
