Alberta Health Services is seeking a committed Health Care Aide to become an integral part of our nursing team. This position offers the chance to work in Home Care, where you will play a vital role in providing personal care and support to clients in community settings.
Position Overview:
As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work closely with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver personal assistance, which includes supporting activities of daily living and providing essential services to patients who require either short-term assistance or ongoing support. Your responsibilities will align with the patient care plan and the policies and procedures of the facility.
You will engage with patients, families, and caregivers throughout the continuum of care, whether in home, community, or health care facilities. Your duties will include assisting nurses with routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs. Additionally, you will help facilitate organized activities or programs and monitor and report on a patient's mood, health, and overall wellbeing.
Working under the supervision of a regulated health professional, you will contribute to maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors while ensuring effective communication with both patients and health professionals.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have completed a Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire and possess active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program, who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum, may also be considered.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification is required. Candidates must be capable of driving in all weather conditions and meeting the physical demands of the position, which include frequent walking, bending, lifting, standing, and driving for extended periods. Responsibilities will also involve transferring patients of varying sizes and degrees of mobility, as well as transporting supplies and equipment. Compliance with CCHSS standards and AHS qualifications is mandatory, and documentation of ongoing education requirements must be submitted regularly. Basic computer skills, including proficiency with the Windows operating system, Outlook, and MS Teams, are essential. Flexibility is crucial, as this position involves shift work that may require both day and evening shifts.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a Home Care environment is preferred, along with Medication Assistance Certification and familiarity with Connect Care training or experience.
