The Vancouver Chinatown Foundation is a registered charity that has been making a positive impact in the community for over a decade. As a key player in the revitalization of Chinatown, the organization is committed to building a more resilient and inclusive community.

With a strong focus on entrepreneurship and innovation, the foundation has initiated several major projects, including 58 West Hastings, the Chinatown Storytelling Centre, the May Wah Hotel, and Chinatown Vintage. These projects aim to provide safe and affordable housing, healthcare services, and community programs that promote life skills, health and wellness, and experiences.

The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Controller to lead the design and implementation of full accounting functions across our capital projects. The successful candidate will have a strong track record in managing financials and implementing processes for large-scale capital projects.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Design and implement full accounting processes and procedures for each project sector.
  2. Perform full cycle accounting duties, including reconciliation, accounts payable and receivable, and payroll.
  3. Lead the annual audit and work collaboratively with auditors to ensure processes and internal controls are in line with policy guidelines.
  4. Liaise with project teams to oversee financial analysis and reporting for large-scale capital projects.
  5. Provide operational and financial strategic insight on future investments and capital expenditures.
  6. Primary oversight of the full accounting function, with a future opportunity to manage and grow a team of administrative staff.
  7. Provide reporting and analysis to the Finance Committee and Treasurer.
  8. Build valuable relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications

To be successful, we are looking for:

  1. Over 5+ years of experience in a similar role, with experience in non-profit organizations being an asset.
  2. A strong track record in managing financials and implementing processes for large-scale capital projects.
  3. Fluency in Cantonese is considered a strong asset.
  4. A passion for making a difference in the Chinatown community.
  5. Strong ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment.
