Position Scope

The HR Operations Specialist is tasked with executing Human Resources functions at a professional level, collaborating closely with the HR Manager, Corporate HR personnel, and plant supervisors and managers. This role encompasses responsibilities for non-exempt recruitment and onboarding processes. The HR Operations Specialist is instrumental in fostering positive employee relations and engages in training, policy enforcement, affirmative action initiatives, and compliance with employment legislation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Uphold the confidentiality of employee personal data, company information, records, and related matters in accordance with applicable laws;
  • Manage all employee transfers, leaves of absence, status changes, and updates to employee information;
  • Gather new hire information for payroll, inputting data into the HRIS and Timekeeping systems;
  • Organize documents related to employee personnel files, medical records, and workers' compensation files;
  • Oversee all contract job bidding processes, including job bid announcements, shift preferences, and modifications to shift start times;
  • Assist employees and agencies with employment and wage verification inquiries;
  • Communicate with employees regarding any issues, inquiries, and concerns, while ensuring all communications are posted throughout the facility;
  • Handle all incoming calls for the HR Department, directing employees, vendors, and the public to the appropriate contacts or addressing questions as needed;
  • Administer all employee benefits, including Health Insurance, 401K/RRSP/Pension, Company Life Insurance, and Vacation;
  • Perform additional duties as assigned;
  • Familiarity with Environmental Management Systems (ISO) and Health & Safety protocols is essential.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Business or Human Resources from a College or University;
  • One to five years of experience in Human Resources;
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English;
  • Basic mathematical skills;
  • Strong organizational abilities;
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written;
  • Proficiency in database applications and administrative systems, particularly Microsoft Office;
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively;
  • Highly motivated, service-oriented, and detail-focused individual;
  • Capable of presenting information to senior management, public groups, and colleagues;
  • Enthusiasm for challenges and new initiatives is a prerequisite;
  • Strong analytical skills;
  • Solid understanding of Human Resources Information Systems;
  • Proven internal customer service skills;
  • Effective presentation abilities;
  • Capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Detail-oriented;
  • Competent computer skills.
