We are seeking a Visual Effects Technical Artist in Vancouver. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the establishment of a robust production pipeline, allowing an artist to transition into a more technical capacity.

This role presents a unique chance to be part of the early stages of a new studio in Vancouver. Our diverse range of projects includes feature films and commercials, and you will collaborate with experienced artists from various productions. We are looking for skilled individuals who are eager to keep pace and add value to our rapidly expanding company.

A Technical Artist plays a crucial role in streamlining the daily tasks of artists. Responsibilities include identifying and resolving issues as they arise, assisting in the development of advanced VFX pipeline solutions, and creating software tools tailored to the team's needs. This position requires proficiency in writing necessary plugins and scripts for DCC applications, alongside a comprehensive understanding of the VFX production pipeline.

Key Responsibilities
  • Exhibit a meticulous nature with a critical eye and high standards.
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities and independently identify solutions.
  • Perform well under pressure while managing time effectively to meet tight deadlines.
  • Provide accurate time estimates for project completion.
  • Collaborate effectively as a team player in a cooperative environment.
  • Show high motivation and the ability to work closely with the entire production team.
  • Mentor and support the development of junior Technical Directors.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and enthusiasm for new challenges in a fast-paced production setting.
  • Participate in the interview process and assist in selecting new team members.
  • Offer technical guidance and support to artists.
  • Stay informed about current developments in tools (Maya/Shotgrid/etc).
  • Provide recommendations and technical solutions to enhance workflow.
  • Ensure the integrity of the production pipeline.
  • Exhibit strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Engage in research and development with supervisors to create new Python tools and improve existing workflows.
  • Collaborate with other Technical Directors and Leads/Supervisors to strengthen the pipeline.
  • Maintain and enhance documentation.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Graphics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Artist Technical Director.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the VFX pipeline or a related industry.
  • Strong understanding of the VFX production pipeline.
  • Proven ability to manage and mentor a team effectively.
  • Expertise in Python and Mel scripting.
  • Familiarity with Shotgun Desktop and Shotgrid.
  • Advanced knowledge of Maya.
  • Experience with 3D Equalizer, Syntheyes, and Nuke is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Linux operating systems.
