Job Overview

W-S Feed & Supplies Ltd. is seeking a dedicated and skilled Heavy Goods Vehicle Operator to join our team. This role is essential for ensuring the efficient transportation of goods while maintaining high standards of safety and customer service.

  • Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience
Work Environment

Our company provides room and board, ensuring that our drivers are well taken care of while on the job.

Key Responsibilities
  • Address and resolve customer inquiries and concerns with professionalism.
  • Load and unload cargo efficiently and safely.
  • Operate and navigate straight or articulated trucks for the transport of goods and materials.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of the vehicle, including tires, lights, brakes, and cold storage equipment.
  • Perform emergency roadside repairs as necessary.
  • Carry out pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety.
  • Maintain accurate records of cargo information, service hours, distance traveled, and fuel consumption.
  • Ensure the safety and security of cargo through proper tarping techniques.
Licenses and Certifications
  • AZ class license
  • DZ class license
  • Air Brake (Z) Endorsement
  • Completion of a Defensive Driving Course
Documentation Skills
  • Ability to manage accident or incident reports.
  • Familiarity with bills of lading and driver logbooks.
  • Conduct vehicle inspection reports (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip).
  • Maintain maintenance and repair reports.
  • Prepare trip reports accurately.
Equipment and Technology
  • Experience operating a straight truck (4,600kg+ or 10,000lbs+ with 3+ axles).
  • Proficient in using GPS and other navigation systems.
  • Knowledge of trip recorders (on-board computers).
Travel Requirements
  • Local and short-haul driving experience is required.
Safety and Security
  • Successful completion of a criminal record check.
  • Verification of driver's validity license.
  • Driving record check (abstract) is mandatory.
Physical Demands
  • Attention to detail is crucial.
  • Ability to handle heavy loads and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed.
  • Comfortable with repetitive tasks and prolonged sitting.
Weight Handling
  • Must be able to lift up to 13.5 kg (30 lbs).
Personal Attributes
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Reliability and teamwork are essential.
Experience
  • Previous experience in a similar role is considered an asset.
