We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse to join our Hospice Residence team at Langley Memorial Hospital. As a member of our multidisciplinary team, you will provide direct nursing care to patients, assessing their physical, emotional, spiritual, and psychosocial needs, and developing and implementing individualized care plans.
Responsibilities- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for assigned patients, using a variety of sources such as observation, communication, and physical assessment.
- Communicate and consult with members of the healthcare team about patient care plans, participate in interdisciplinary conferences, and explain plans of care to patients and families.
- Act as an advocate to protect and promote patients' rights to autonomy, respect, privacy, dignity, and access to information.
- Document timely and accurate reports of relevant observations, including patient and family teaching and evaluation of nursing care.
- Participate in quality improvement activities by identifying patient care issues and collecting data, evaluating patient care programs, techniques, standards, and procedures.
- Maintain a safe environment for patients, families, and staff by adhering to established safety and emergency practices and procedures.
Education and Experience
Graduation from an approved School of Nursing and/or Psychiatric Nursing. Two years' recent, related medical nursing experience in an acute care facility, including one year recent related experience in a hospice/palliative care environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of nursing practice as it pertains to hospice palliative/residence patients
- Knowledge of other healthcare professions and their contribution to the multidisciplinary team
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to organize and prioritize work in a dynamic environment
- Ability to develop and maintain rapport with the patient, family, and caregivers
- Ability to operate related equipment, including applicable software applications
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position
