Objective
The Heavy Equipment Operator at Holcim is responsible for a diverse range of activities including site maintenance, operation of both stationary and mobile machinery utilized in aggregate production, as well as conducting routine upkeep and repairs as instructed.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance and Operations:

  • Collaborate effectively within a team alongside fellow workers, supervisors, and management.
  • Execute cleanup tasks utilizing a skid steer and/or manual tools; ensure safety around operational machinery while adhering to required personal protective equipment.
  • Conduct pre-operational inspections and operate designated mobile machinery as per training and directives.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance checks and lubrication of equipment in accordance with established job plans, procedures, and manuals.
  • Assist in the repair of malfunctioning machinery and contribute to plant maintenance as necessary.
  • Keep the Supervisor updated on any issues impacting assigned tasks.
  • Specific duties may vary daily based on operational requirements.

Health & Safety:

  • Adhere to OHSA regulations and all applicable safety standards.
  • Utilize all prescribed Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Maintain strict compliance with Holcim safety policies and procedures.
  • Report all incidents, near misses, and safety concerns to the Supervisor.
  • Follow Lockout/Tag out protocols.
  • Be aware of emergency response procedures.
  • Availability for rotating shifts, overtime, and weekend work as needed.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Reliability in following instructions and responding to supervisory guidance.

Environmental Management:

  • Ensure compliance with Holcim and regulatory environmental standards.
  • Remain vigilant regarding environmentally sensitive areas and proactively address any potential environmental issues in the work area.

Other Duties:

  • Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned to support the efficient operation of the facility.

Dependability:

  • Follow directives, work collaboratively in a team environment, and respond to Supervisor's instructions.

Safety Profile:

  • Comply with OHSA and all relevant regulations.
  • Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Adhere strictly to Holcim safety rules and procedures.
  • Report all incidents, near misses, and safety hazards to the Supervisor.
  • Follow Lockout/Tag out/Try out procedures.
  • Be aware of emergency response plans.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Preferred experience in construction, mining, or heavy machinery operation.
  • Basic welding and fitting skills are required.
  • Minimum of an Ontario high school diploma (OSSD) or equivalent.
  • Mechanical aptitude is essential.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, overtime, and weekends as required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Dependability in following instructions and responding to supervisory direction.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

  • Outdoor work in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Indoor work in diverse environments (e.g., hot, noisy, dusty).
  • Flexibility to work rotating shifts, overtime, and weekends as necessary.
  • Ability to move freely throughout all areas of the facility.
  • Capability to work at heights.
  • Physical fitness to perform job duties effectively.
