Technical Stage Lighting Specialist

The City of Vancouver is seeking a highly skilled Technical Stage Lighting Specialist to join our team in the Arts, Culture and Community Services department. As a key member of our theatre operations team, you will be responsible for the operation, inspection, maintenance, repair, and installation of stage lighting equipment and systems.

This is a skilled, specialized technical role that requires a high degree of independence of action and judgment. You will work closely with our production team to ensure the smooth operation of our theatres and provide technical advice to lessees, organization representatives, and theatre management.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in stage lighting systems, electrical maintenance, and safety protocols. You will be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines. Excellent communication and leadership skills are essential for this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Evaluate and maintain stage lighting systems, equipment, and fixtures to ensure optimal performance.
  2. Perform and supervise maintenance, repairs, overhauls, installations, and upgrades of stage lighting systems.
  3. Provide technical advice and assistance to internal and external customers on stage lighting systems and electrical maintenance.
  4. Supervise and coordinate the work of crews assigned to stage lighting operations.
  5. Develop and implement safety protocols and procedures for stage lighting operations.

Qualifications:

  1. Completion of a two-year college-level technical diploma or equivalent, and at least three years of full-time experience in stage lighting systems and electrical maintenance.
  2. Class B-R – Full Entertainment Field Safety Representative certificate of qualification, or ability to complete course and receive certificate within 12-month probationary period.

Required Licenses and Certificates:

Other Desirable Qualifications:

  1. Experience in electronics repair.
