Head Resident Stage Electrician

This is a skilled technical role that involves the operation, inspection, maintenance, repair, and installation of stage lighting equipment. The incumbent will plan, coordinate, and supervise crews working with in-house lighting systems and may oversee contractors providing lighting and electrical services.
The successful candidate will provide technical advice to lessees, organization representatives, and theatre management to ensure optimum presentation of events and activities involving the theatres' systems. They will exercise a high degree of independence of action and judgment in all related technical work, including planning, advising, and supervision of crews.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate systems, equipment, and fixtures to determine operational demands and develop maintenance, repair, and upgrade plans.
- Perform and/or supervise maintenance, repairs, overhauls, installations, and upgrades of lighting equipment and systems.
- Provide technical advice and assistance to internal and external users on matters related to presenting events at the theatres.
- Maintain a positive relationship with clients through effective communication.
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise event installations and operations, and operate complex computerized and/or manual control systems.
- Solve and troubleshoot technical problems that may arise during an event.
- Supervise and coordinate the work of crews assigned, train new and unfamiliar crew members, and provide leadership in establishing high standards of operating efficiency, safe work practices, and customer service.
- Assist other stage and/or theatre departments as required.
- Research and provide information for budget submissions.
- Check, maintain, order, and replace stock and equipment, and prepare and maintain records of work performed.
Requirements
Education and Experience:
- Completion of a two-year college-level technical diploma or equivalent, and at least three years of full-time experience at an equivalent level of responsibility in the core area of work following completion of post-secondary education.
- Class B-R – Full Entertainment Field Safety Representative certificate of qualification, or be able to complete the aforementioned course and receive a certificate of qualification within the 12-month probationary period.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of stage lighting systems, equipment, and techniques.
- Considerable knowledge of safety procedures and protocols.
- Sound knowledge of applicable collective agreements, codes, regulations, policies, and operating procedures.
- Ability to perform skilled maintenance and repair work on lighting equipment and systems.
- Ability to work from plans, drawings, and sketches.
- Ability to meet, communicate effectively with, and assist internal and external customers in achieving their objectives.
- Ability to effectively lead and supervise the work of large crews under demanding and pressured conditions.
- Ability to prepare and maintain records, material, and equipment estimates, and order same as required.
- Skilled in the use of various tools, equipment, materials, and systems involved in stage productions.
- Excellent computer skills and software knowledge.
- Ability to perform all duties to a high standard and support the needs of the customer with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to accommodate a flexible work schedule that includes nights and weekends.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Portrays a polished, professional image.
- Must work well under pressure and be able to manage deadlines.
- Ability to lift heavy objects.
Required Licenses and Certificates:
- Class B-R – Full Entertainment Field Safety Representative certificate of qualification, or be able to complete the aforementioned course and receive a certificate of qualification within the 12-month probationary period.
- Experience in electronics repair.
