About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Pursuits team at Plan Group. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in supporting and leading the integrated pursuits process with a mechanical focus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and lead specific Alternate Financing & Procurement (AFP) Integrated Pursuits with a mechanical focus, working closely with multi-discipline groups in estimation and operations.
  • Read and clearly understand issued Statements of Requirements, review and interpret job specifications and drawings, and follow through with the estimating process to develop and assist in competitive pricing.
  • Effectively communicate with stakeholders to gather information, clarify specifications, and provide clear and concise information in meetings and presentations with clients and partners.
  • Work with design teams to ensure the design meets the prescription, is focused on an efficient design with cost control at the forefront, and meets key deadlines.
  • Collaborate with consultants to complete system layouts to assist with the estimating process.
  • Assist in producing material and labor take-off through estimating software to develop accurate quotations.
  • Coordinate with sub-contractors and suppliers to obtain pricing to include within the final quotation provided to the client.
  • Coordinate system installation requirements with other design disciplines where required.
  • Assist in researching new systems, resources, analytical processes, procedures, and working practices to identify and implement changes to increase efficiency, productivity, and overall profitability.
  • Participate in closing the bid, including bid review meetings.
  • Participate in handover meetings with the Project Management team after award.

Requirements

  • Minimum five (5) years of engineering experience within the mechanical consultant or construction industry, focused on mechanical building systems (i.e., HVAC, Hydronic, Plumbing, Refrigeration, Fire Protection).
  • Experience in ICI Design Build/P3 project delivery is strongly preferred, with a focus on building projects within the healthcare, government, office, or hospitality sectors.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of all relevant building codes and standards (i.e., ASHRAE, OBC, NBC, NFPA, CSA).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with experience with Accubid Pro and/or Enterprise a definite asset.
  • Ability to travel, including attending meetings at architects and consultants.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and NMS specifications an asset.
  • Professional Engineer, Licensed in the Province of Ontario or Ingénieur, Licensed in the Province of Québec, is considered an asset.
