Role Overview: The Department Manager plays a crucial role in providing effective leadership and guidance to the team, ensuring the achievement of sales targets, merchandising standards, and operational excellence within the department. This position emphasizes creating a safe and engaging shopping environment for both customers and team members while embodying the core values of honesty, trustworthiness, and mutual respect.
Key Responsibilities:
- Mentor and coach department team members to enhance productivity and technical skills.
- Uphold high standards of customer service and hold the team accountable for service excellence.
- Prepare and maintain essential documentation, including operational reports and health/safety records.
- Ensure the department meets cleanliness and sanitation standards and passes all health audits.
- Implement departmental initiatives on schedule and within budget to support corporate objectives.
- Train team members on policies and procedures, including health and safety regulations.
- Achieve financial objectives through effective merchandising and inventory management.
- Foster a positive team environment through open communication and regular performance feedback.
Qualifications:
- In-depth knowledge of prepared foods and grocery department operations.
- Minimum of three years of experience in team management.
- Strong financial acumen and understanding of key performance indicators.
- Proven ability to coach and develop team members.
- Familiarity with employment standards, health and safety regulations, and loss prevention practices.
- Knowledge of merchandising techniques and temperature control.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to lead through influence.
- Adaptability to changing situations and processes.
Working Conditions:
- Standard store environment with occasional meetings at the office.
- Possible travel to other locations as required.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings and weekends.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including standing for extended periods and lifting.
