Position Overview: Vice President of Business Development
Our client, a prominent private equity firm based in Toronto, was founded by two highly esteemed investment professionals. They focus on identifying investment opportunities within the Canadian lower middle market, emphasizing sectors such as business services, value-added distribution, and high-return capital ventures. Their strategic approach to value creation leverages data analytics, sales force enhancement, and effective buy-and-build methodologies.
Due to their recent successes and ongoing projects, the firm is expanding its team and is in search of a Vice President of Business Development. This role is crucial for identifying private equity investment opportunities for new platform investments and add-on acquisitions for existing portfolio companies. The selected candidate will play a key role in driving the firm's growth and overall success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Formulate and implement a focused business development strategy to cultivate a robust pipeline of opportunities, utilizing and maintaining the existing database and CRM tools.
- Build and nurture a strong network of advisors within this market sector, primarily in Canada and the United States.
- Participate in industry conferences and events to identify potential investment targets.
- Develop expertise in trends and opportunities within the small to mid-cap private equity landscape across Canada.
- Collaborate closely with the investment team, fostering strong relationships with portfolio executives and senior investment professionals.
- Engage in meetings and discussions with clients.
- Establish a positive, knowledgeable, and trusted rapport with clients and advisors.
- Become a recognized figure within the Canadian private equity community.
- Exhibit high emotional intelligence in relationship-building and represent the firm effectively in the market.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Completion of a Bachelor's degree, preferably in commerce or business; CPA or MBA is a plus.
- 5-10 years of experience in mid-market diversified investment banking, financial sponsor leverage finance, or strategic consulting.
- An outgoing individual with a strong understanding of the private equity landscape.
- High emotional intelligence and professional maturity.
- Highly organized, proactive, and business development-oriented, comfortable in a dynamic entrepreneurial environment.
- A strong desire to contribute significantly to the growth of a Canadian private equity firm.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with a polished professional demeanor.
- Eligibility to work in Canada and familiarity with the Canadian business ecosystem.
We appreciate the interest of all candidates in this position. Only those who closely match the qualifications will be contacted.
