*** The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enhances the environment and safeguards public health for all New Yorkers by delivering 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and mitigating air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution.
DEP stands as the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the nation, employing nearly 6,000 individuals.DEP's water supply system comprises 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system's 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the city.
The Bureau of Wastewater Treatment (BWT) oversees the operation and maintenance of all facilities related to sewage treatment within the five boroughs of the city.
This encompasses 14 wastewater treatment plants, sludge dewatering facilities, and collections facilities (including pumping stations, combined sewer overflow retention facilities, regulators, tide gates, etc.). The Division of Engineering is composed of three (3) engineering sections: Mechanical, Electrical, and Structural, responsible for designing capital construction projects aimed at replacing or reconstructing equipment and structures at the Bureau's facilities.
Over 150 projects are typically in design at any given time, totaling over $100M annually.Design specifications and drawings are transformed into contract documents for construction under Job Order Contracts (JOC) or coordinated through the DEP solicitation/bid process for standalone contract registrations.
Once construction Job Orders or standalone contracts are established, they are handed over to the Division of Construction Management for execution.
The Division of Engineering remains involved in the project as necessary during the construction phase, including providing Design Services During Construction (DSDC).
The Division collaborates with essential entities, both within and outside DEP, to advance designs and contract documents promptly, ensuring all stakeholders are engaged and that applicable rules, regulations, policies, and codes are adhered to.
Review design documents for compliance with Bureau standards and industry codes, rules, regulations, and policies.# Identify projects with challenges and lead the initiative to resolve the issues causing these challenges.
# Attend office and field meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
# Compile, assess, and deliver performance and productivity reports.
# Ensure staff are adequately trained to fulfill their job roles.
A valid New York State License as a Professional Engineer and six (6) years of full-time satisfactory experience in chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, or plan examining work, with at least two (2) years in an executive, managerial, or administrative capacity.
