Job Title: Health Information Management Specialist

Job Summary:

The Health Information Management Specialist plays a crucial role in maintaining, organizing, and processing health records and patient information. This position requires a strong understanding of health information management standards and practices, as well as excellent organizational and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assemble and maintain accurate and complete patient records
  • Process patient discharges and transfers
  • Manage record retention and destruction schedules
  • Perform access and system user audits
  • Support patient discharge activities and procedures
  • Involved in the disclosure, correction, and lockbox of personal information

Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited Health Information Management Program
  • Certification with the Canadian College of Health Information Management (CCHIM) and active membership in good standing with CHIMA
  • 2 years' experience in a hospital or long-term care setting
  • Excellent knowledge of Personal Health Information Protection legislation and other relevant statutes
  • Proficiency in data collection, preparation, processing, interpretation, and display
